REDD+ in Community Managed Forests in Nepal

Ludikhola (Gorkha)

Community REDD Working Area : Ludikhola watershed is located in Gorkha district of the western development region of Nepal. It covers the forest area ranging from 600m to 1100m altitude having upper tropical to sub-tropical lower forests. Ludikhola watershed bears Shorea robusta, Schima wallichi, and pines as dominant species. This watershed underwent high deforest rates in the past which has been reduced through community management. This watershed is characterized by social diversity with numerous ethnic groups (i.e. Magar, Gurung, Tamang, Dalit and few Brahmin, Chhetri).

There are 31 CFUGs in Ludikhola at present. The forest area of the watershed has been devided into dense and sparse strata with 144 and 41 permanent sampling plots respectively for the purpose of carbon monitoring.
